My sweet, busy middle one turned seven last week. Mama took her and her bestie into Wellington for an evening in a hotel. We could not have encountered worse weather than what we had on our trip in, starting with having to wait for the train on the unsheltered side of the platform, then waves splashing onto the train as we approached Wellington, and finishing with a brief walk in gale force winds to the hotel.
Once inside, safe and warm, we hit the pool and spa, followed by a big bubble bath for the girls while I watched Robin Hood on Sky (he's a recurring theme around our place). The girls loved their dinner in the fancy schmancy restaurant with chandeliers - cheese burgers;-)

They even managed to get to sleep in the same bed at a reasonable hour, allowing me to read to my heart's content. Bestie's mama joined us for brekkie and a spot of retail therapy before we all returned to the real world. Glad you had such a super birthday, darling!!
I first knitted this man a jersey while we were still dating. I remember my (superstitious) grandmother expressing some misgiving. At that stage I hadn't heard of the Sweater Curse. I'm pleased to say we appear to have triumphed over it and will celebrate 15 years of marriage in a few weeks. I thought he probably deserved another jersey for putting up with me for all these years.
I did a bit of satisfying, fast, colourful, feel-good knitting in the weekend.The three bigger squares on the right are for UNICEF's Unite For Mothers. There's still time for you other knitters to whip up a square or two and get them to UNICEF by this Friday. We sent three to represent my three healthy children. The one on the top was knitted by Miss Nine - a cool mother-daughter project! She used wool I hand-dyed with a group of friends a couple of years ago.The smaller squares will be sewn into a snuggly, love-filled baby blanket for a friend's brand new baby girl.
I'm not a crier but this week I cried reading Wearing the Poppy to my children. It makes me sad, sad, sad thinking of mothers losing their children through war. And does this remembering we do make it stop? It makes me sad, sad, sad thinking of mothers in Darfur, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan............
